Poolewe

Poolewe is located at the top of Loch Ewe, a sea loch that has otters, dolphins and many species of wild birds. While it is a small coastal community you will find plenty to do and places to explore. The are has many hill lochs full of wild brown trout - permits can be bought locally. You are also just a short distance from Loch Maree, one of Scotland's most beautiful lochs.

What we love about Poolewe - seeing the salmon jump in the river Ewe, eating out in the restaurants and coffee shops, throwing stones into the water, seeing the wildlife that is in the area - eagles and buzzards, dolphins (and whales from the coast near to Poolewe), seals and otters, plus many different wading birds. The nearby beaches are fantastic to walk the dog(s) and for children. The area is just totally different to many other areas of the Highlands and is also close to the Gairloch community where there is many more things to see and do.

While in this area drive up to Camusnagaul and drop into Maggie's Tearoom for a light lunch and lots of gifts and quality presents to take home with you from your visit to the Highlands.

Poolewe

The village has a small park area where you can picnic, the area is next to the river and on a sunny day is a brilliant place to spend some time. Poolewe also has a swimming pool - ideal for the kids on days when the weather is not suitable for the beach.

Firemore beach near Poolewe

This is an open beach were wild camping is allowed. The last time we visited there was a sign asking for people to pay a small deposit for the key to the gate into the beach. A great family holiday camping.
